The Harlan County Road Department is responsible for construction and maintenance of all roads, bridges, signs and culverts under our jurisdiction. The county has approximately 740 miles of road which 452 miles are gravel, and 51 bridges over 20' in length.
Harlan County Road Department operates 8 grader routes; each operator has an average of 93 miles to their route. It takes approximately 2 weeks to blade over their entire route.
Harlan County Road Department personnel are responsible for maintaining roads, sign's, bridges, asphalt, equipment maintenance, snow removal, vegetation control and construction projects.
At present time we have 9 full time workers.
Road office personnel are Tim Burgeson Highway/Weed Superintendent, Troy Collins Foreman, and Lea Bowen Secretary.
Notice of Action
WHEREAS, a resolution approving the Road Superintendent to charge $150.00 to persons who trench across County Roads and $50.00 to persons to bore under county roads to recover the County's costs associated with said work, is deemed necessary.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Harlan County Board of Supervisors, of Harlan County, Nebraska, hereby approve the Road Superintendent's charge of $150.00 to persons who trench across County Roads and $50.00 to persons to bore under county roads to recover the County's costs associated with said work. In support of said resolution, the Board hereby finds that the County Road Department is required to expend substantial effort and materials to repair the roads and road right-of-ways after such work is done and that it is necessary for the county to re-coop some of those costs.
